Choosing Happiness at Work Training Overview
The value of being happy at work cannot be overstated. We spend so much of our time at work to not be happy while we are there. When we are not happy at work, it will inevitably spread to our personal lives which in turn affects those around us.
Happiness at work is different for each person; it requires an understanding that team members are individuals who are made happy for varying reasons. Leaders need to ask, “How can I make my team happy? Individuals need to ask, “How can I achieve happiness in my workplace?” The stories in the book will set you on a path toward achieving happiness more often and more abundantly and this workshop aims to help you create effective strategies for you and your team to achieve happiness at work using the Happiness Framework™.

A common theme that emerged repeatedly from the individuals interviewed for the book is their high level of self-awareness. They possess a deep understanding of their own identities, values, strengths, and passions. This self-awareness forms the essential groundwork for effective leadership and teamwork. In this session, our focus will be on enhancing our comprehension of both ourselves and our team members. We will employ various tools such as the Personality Dimensions assessment, values self-assessment, and the Johari Window. Through these activities, we aim to cultivate a greater appreciation for the unique qualities and diverse strengths that each team member brings. By embracing and comprehending these differences, we can unleash the full potential of our team and foster a collaborative environment where every individual feels valued and listened to.
The interviewees in the book demonstrated a remarkable attribute: high emotional intelligence (EQ). Research indicates that EQ plays a significant role in achieving success, with up to 80% of workplace success attributed to emotional intelligence compared to 20% for intellectual intelligence (IQ). This finding is supported by the Conference Board of Canada’s Employability Skills 2000+ initiative.
This session will explore the specific competencies individuals can cultivate to enhance their emotional intelligence. It goes beyond the professional sphere, extending to personal lives as well. By developing these competencies, participants can increase their EQ levels and benefit from improved interactions at work and in personal relationships.
This session is dedicated to exploring the transition curve and equipping participants with effective strategies to navigate change successfully. Just as change is constant, so too is the need to adapt and grow. By understanding the stages of transition and the emotions associated with each phase, participants can develop resilience and embrace change with a positive mindset. The session will provide practical tools and techniques to help individuals move through the transition curve, managing challenges and uncertainties with confidence. By embracing change as an opportunity for personal and professional growth, participants will be empowered to thrive in an ever-changing world.
One of the consistent themes among the interviewees is their ability to find genuine enjoyment in their daily work. They have learned to infuse their jobs with a playful mindset, recognizing the immense joy it brings and the tangible outcomes it yields. When individuals experience happiness in their professional lives, they become more productive and engaged, reducing the likelihood of conflicts.
In this session, we will delve into strategies to incorporate playfulness into our work routines. By embracing a playful mindset, we can unlock our creativity, foster a positive work environment, and enhance overall productivity. We will explore the connection between finding happiness in our work, serving others, and seeing the good in each day. Additionally, we will develop action plans to promote wellness, resilience, and optimism in challenging times. By integrating the principles of Choosing Happiness into our interactions with clients, colleagues, and the community, we can create a positive ripple effect that spreads joy to those around us.
In Praise of Choosing Happiness at Work Training
“Attending the “Choosing Happiness at Work” session with Sandra has re-energized me! Her expert facilitation skills coupled with lots of interactive components allows you to reflect on your own experiences and ultimately understand that it truly is your choice to be happy. The book is also a wonderful read that can be enjoyed in small bites (although it was tough to put down!). I highly recommend this training to anyone seeking to create a more positive and fulfilling work environment.”
“Shortly after the launch of Sandra’s book, Choosing Happiness at Work, I approached her and asked her to design customized training for our department that was embarking on a period of change. Sandra met with me, listened to my needs and wants and presented our leadership team with a 6-month hybrid workshop design. Session one and eight were held in person, while the six half day sessions were experienced virtually. Based on the needs of the team, Sandra took us through a journey of self-awareness, incorporating discussions and activities around values and passions to the group. The Personality Dimensions report gave each participant a concrete resource to guide their self-awareness journey. Additional topics presented included: Emotional Intelligence, navigating change with optimism and flexibility, incorporating play and passion into work, seeing the good in each day and team awareness.
Sandra has a natural ability to connect with all participants through the personal stories and past experiences she shares. Sandra’s knowledge of the Employment Services sector earned the trust and respect of those in the room very quickly. Sandra gave time for self-reflection and sharing and also incorporated many opportunities to play into the series. Although the theme of the workshops was embracing change and choosing happiness at work, the end result was a closer, more open team. I think it was the perfect series to bring our team back together after working a computer screen away for so long! I look forward to hiring Sandra for many more training opportunities with Georgian College.”
“Our company had worked with Sandra in the past as she provided leadership training to some of our experienced and newer supervisory staff. When looking for similar training a few years later, we knew Sandra would be our first call. This time she introduced the Choosing Happiness at Work Leadership Training to our team.
Our staff enjoyed the discussions around coaching conversations and effective communication. Whether it was the activities our employees participated in, the examples and stories that were shared or the assessments and models that were used, our team was able to take away items to work on and use in their own leadership roles at G.T. French. They really enjoyed how the training connected to Sandra’s book; with topics such as creating happiness through kindness and encouraging a collaborative work culture. Our participants learned the difference between being a manager and a leader which brought about positive change within their own departments – making work a happier place to be.”
