AC3: Assessment Component of Career Counseling
Join us for a transformative 4-week live workshop series via Zoom, where you will explore an innovative employment counseling framework designed to empower your clients in their job search, career development, educational decisions, and job maintenance challenges. This interactive workshop series adopts a client-centered approach, providing practical insights and techniques for immediate application.
We will be covering the job loss cycle, foundational and advanced employment counselling skills, the four employability dimensions, along with the four phases and twelve steps of the Assessment Component of Career Counselling Model. You will be provided with the reading material and visual aids each week in preparation for each 3-hour session.

Assessment Component of Career Counseling (AC3) ModulesModule One: Foundation and Orientation
- Defining the Role of Employment Counseling: Understand the core responsibilities, basic attitudes and behaviours and the scope of employment counseling in guiding individuals towards successful career paths.
- Job Loss Cycle: Comprehend the emotional and psychological stages individuals undergo when experiencing job loss, enabling better provision of support.
- Overview of the AC3 Framework: Introduce the overarching structure of the AC3 framework, offering a roadmap for career counseling interventions.
- Employability Dimensions: Explore the four crucial dimensions that shape employability, encompassing career decision-making, skill enhancement, effective job searching, and the pivotal skills needed to sustain and excel in the workforce. Gain insights into these multifaceted aspects crucial for achieving success in today’s professional landscape.
Module Two: Implementation and Practice
- Phases I & II of the AC3 Framework: Dive deeper into the initial phases of the AC3 model, focusing on understanding the client’s situation and formulating a comprehensive action plan.
- Steps 1-7: Break down the steps involved in the early phases of the model, covering assessment, goal setting, and strategy development.
- Modelled Roleplay & Practice: Engage in simulated scenarios and practical exercises to apply theoretical knowledge, enhancing skills through application.
Module Three: Advanced Techniques and Skills Development
- Phases III & IV of the AC3 Framework: Progress through the latter stages of the AC3 model, concentrating on implementation, monitoring progress, and evaluating outcomes.
- Steps 8-12: Focus on the final steps involving action implementation, adaptation, and evaluating effectiveness.
- AC3 Employment Counseling Skills – Foundational & Advanced: Explore and refine foundational and advanced counseling techniques tailored to employment scenarios.
- Practice & Feedback: Further practice sessions with structured feedback to fine-tune counseling approaches.
Module Four: Mastery and Certification
- Practice & Feedback: Continued practice opportunities with targeted feedback for ongoing skill enhancement and refinement.
- Client Reluctance: Address strategies to overcome client reluctance or resistance during the counseling process.
- Post Course Assignment for Certification: A culminating assignment designed to assess comprehension and application of skills, leading to certification upon successful completion.
These modules provide a structured and comprehensive approach to career counseling, blending theoretical knowledge with practical application, fostering skill development, and ensuring readiness for effective employment counseling.
When: Mondays from 9am to noon: February 5 to March 4 (excluding February 19th which is Family Day)

The Employment Counsellor’s Toolkit
This 4-week live, interactive, virtual program will focus on creative, relevant and practical tools you can use in 4 phases of employment counselling to enhance your employment counselling sessions.
- Understanding the Story: Where is my client right now?
In this phase, we will review assumptions & values, mattering & bridging, metaphors, planned happenstance, storytelling
- Exploring the Possibilities: Where does my client want to be?
In this phase we will review the centric model, reframing strategies, moments of movement, career myths, self-awareness
- Mapping the Journey: How do I assist my client in getting there?
In this module, we will review decision making strategies, learning strategies, positive uncertainty, career paradoxes - Launching the Plan: How will my client and I know when we have arrived?
In this phase, we will review action planning, challenging myths, self management, transfer of learning
Career Choices for Your Personality Type
Research suggests we can probably find our niche in almost any type of occupation or organization and we are usually happiest in our careers when our jobs within our organizations reflect our personal style. It boosts professional fulfilment when our job is in line with your attitude, values, and preferences.
Using tools like DISC©, MBTI® or Personality Dimensions® and the Employability Skills Profile 2000+, you will explore what the most important elements are for you to achieve job fulfillment as well as what skills Canadian employers have identified that will make you even more successful at work.

Pre-employment Workshops
For unemployed individuals ready to enter or re-enter the workforce, our pre-employment workshops are an excellent tool for obtaining and maintaining employment. We provide seminars to provide an understanding of the current labour market and the fast-paced world of work. We place substantial importance on self-awareness – our clients will be encouraged to identify their top values, skills, personal style and interests to help them choose a job that is suited to them. In addition to learning customer service skills and how to work effectively with others, individuals will also have the opportunity to develop and practice interviewing skills.
